Recently, many people live stream themselves to play video games. This has become a popular pastime on the internet and many highly skilled gamers have become internet celebrities this way. However, some of them have become controversial and notorious instead of being known for their gaming skills and great commentary. A good example of this is Brittany Venti.
Brittany is a video gamer and YouTuber whose LifeStreams are regularly targeted by internet trolls. These trolls post horrible comments and hack into their games causing them to collapse. that other people pick up and share on the internet as comic relief. These videos have made her a viral sensation across the internet. Find out more about them here.
Who is Brittany Venti?
Brittany Venti is an American gamer who plays video games herself on Twitch. Her streams are regularly ambushed by 4Chan trolls who post all sorts of offensive comments about her, making her very upset and dramatic. She regularly bursts into (mostly false) tears and dissolves into bad grammar in exchanges with the trolls. Before we continue, it is important to clarify some of the terms used above.
Twitch is a website where you can live stream yourself playing video games. Launched in 2011, Twitch is home to some of the world’s most popular gamers. Games competitions are also held here. As of May 2018, 2.2 members broadcast to 15 million people daily.
4Chan is a collection of online forums where people can anonymously post pictures and comments on various topics. Unlike most social media accounts, you don’t need an account to comment or post on topics. 4Chan was founded in 2003 by American Christopher Poole. A notorious haunt for internet trolls due to its anonymity, 4Chan has spurned some of the internet’s biggest memes
A twitch raid is when someone on 4chan or similar sites provides a link to someone’s live stream on another site. Hundreds of people on this forum will invade streamers’ comment boxes and harass them, calling all sorts of unprintable names, playing pranks, and basically cyberbullying.Brittany Venti started playing late on Twitch2014 but rose to prominence in May 2015 after a raid by 4Chan trolls. The trolls flooded their comments section with hurtful and abusive comments, which were sometimes racist and misogynistic. This caused her to become angry and throw back insults. Someone filmed their outbursts and mishaps and then posted them on the internet. The video went viral and Venti became an internet celebrity overnight. As of September 2018, the video has been viewed nearly 600,000 times.
This cycle has continued; Venti would livestream herself while playing video games and 4Chan trolls would interrupt her. Sometimes the trolls would interfere in their game and start playing a voice accusing them of being a terrorist and causing 9/11. On other occasions, they used the video donation feature and posted memes mocking Venti. In one of the most despicable online attacks she has suffered, 4chan trolls hacked into her stream while she was playing Grand Theft Auto V. They put their own characters into the game, who then went after Venti’s character in order to rape the character. This made her burst into tears. Her attackers then stated that they disliked her due to her fakery.
Hate memes and bad grammar
One of the most notable things about Venti is the fact that she intentionally speaks bad grammar and mispronounces words in her streams. Some examples are “estimate” instead of estimate, “comment” instead of comment, “breast” instead of breast, “league of leggings” instead of legenden (league of legends is a very popular online game she sometimes plays). She also refers to memes as “memees”. Some have argued that she is only doing this to attract attention and that she is in fact a very intelligent young lady.
Another notable thing about Brittany Venti is her hatred of memes, which is understandable given that she’s the target of many of 4chan’s more common forums. One of the memes she hates the most is when trolls hack into her streams and start playing John Cena’s theme song with the words “and his name is John Cena”.
Ban on Twitch
Venti was banned from Twitch on the 3rd occasion for her controversial currents. In June 2015, she was banned from her stream for racist and pornographic content. She then moved to Hitbox, an online platform similar to Twitch. Between May and July 2017 she also acted on YouTube. In July 2017, Venti returned to Twitch after the ban was lifted.
In January 2018, Brittany Venti received a 24 hour ban for sharing a video about African cuisine that contained racist and offensive stereotypes of Africa and Haiti. This infuriated her as she said she is half black like her mother is black. She even added her DNA results to prove her claim. The results showed that she is 66.4% European, 32.9% Sub-Saharan African, 0.5% East Asian and Aboriginal, and 0.2% unmatched. Venti is currently banned from Twitch. In April 2018, she was banned from streaming content related to a shooting at YouTube headquarters.
Although she has many haters, Venti also has fans. One of her fans, identifying himself as a white knight, started a petition on Change.org to stop 4chan from harassing her. The petition was signed by a total of 36 people. In July 2018, she set up a Go Fund Me account herself as a result of the harassment she allegedly received from others. The account only raised $45 off its $20,000 goal.
