The actress was born Suzanne Rossell Cryer in Rochester, New York on January 13, 1967. Her parents, Dick Cryer and Libby Cryer, raised her alongside an unnamed sister. In an interview, her mother revealed that she considers her daughter her favorite actress.

Suzanne spent the first two years of her life in Pennsylvania in a family that did very well, although she did not consider herself privileged as a child. In 1969, her family moved to Greenwich, Connecticut, another upper-class place.

Cryer was educated at Greenwich High, graduating in 1984, and then at Yale University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. Then she got a master’s degree from the Drama School of Drama. Long before that, she had already started to like theater and performance in general. Consequently, when she was there, she performed at the Utah Shakespeare Festival, appearing in As You Like It as Rosalind and Richard III as Anne.

After graduating, she became a teacher in New York where she taught sixth grade in the public school system. She would also later work with teachers in Los Angeles with the goal of bringing Shakespeare to elementary school children.

As for her acting career, Suzanne Cryer made her television debut in 1992 playing Sandy in the 1992 TV show Law & Order. In 1994, she played Frances in the short film, Some People Call this a Sling Blade. From there, she went on to get small roles in different TV shows, including a role in Seinfeld in 1997.

Also in 1997, she played Amy Cain in Walk the Dog. One of her biggest roles as an actress came on television in 1998 when she landed the role of Ashley Walker in Guys, Girl, and Pizza Place which ran until 2001. From 2002 to 2003 she appeared in some episodes of Frasier, then in 2015 she got her role as Laurie Bream in the all-important Silicon Valley

Her most recent role is in The Cloverfield Paradox (2018) in which she stars as Leslie in the sci-fi horror film.
