Mary Rose Byrne was born on July 24, 1979 in Balmain, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Byrne began taking acting classes at the age of eight, joining the Australian Youth Theater in Sydney and then attended the University of Sydney. In 1999, Byrne studied acting at the Atlantic Theater Company in New York.

While continuing her studies, the Australian actress made her film debut with the film Dallas Doll, when she was 13 years old . After appearing in series in her country, such as The Heartbreakers in 2002, she got her first big opportunity in Hollywood making a small appearance in Star Wars: Episode II-Attack of the Clones .

Then would come the successes of Troy and 28 Weeks Later . She is a specialist in science fiction cinema, having in her career the films Sunshine, Solar Alert , Omen and also in horror films such as The Night of the Demon. Likewise, she has explored comedy in productions such as Ladies at War, Good Neighbors and A Clueless Spy . In 2012, Byrne began dating American actor Bobby Cannavale. The couple have two children together.
