The man behind Buck’s number 13 shirt, MalcolmBrogdon is a very versatile basketball player whose interest in the game dates back to his childhood. He currently plays professional basketball for the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). In his college days, Brogdon played for the Virginia Cavaliers and was the first player to receive both the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year and ACC Player of the Year awards. That same year, he was drafted the second round during the NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks and was named Rookie of the Year.

Dr. Jann Adams and Mitchell Brogdon welcomed their third son, Malcolm Moses Brogdon, on December 11, 1992 in Atlanta, Georgia. Mitchell was an attorney and Jann was chair of Morehouse College’s psychology department and associate dean of math and science. Their marriage ended in divorce 11 years later, but Malcolm’s love of basketball blossomed. Malcolm Brogdon has two brothers, John (older brother), a lawyer and Gino (older brother), who are currently studying at law school. Because of his family’s strong belief in academics, Malcolm was forced to excel in class or give up pursuing his dream career. When he graduated from Greater Atlanta Christian School, he didn’t disappoint.
Malcolm subsequently chose the University of Virginia, turning down offers from colleges in Georgia, Arkansas, and Notre Dame. He continued to play basketball in college but became inactive in his sophomore year due to a foot injury. He was instrumental in his team’s successful runs from 2013 to 2015, two seasons in a row. In his freshman year alone, he averaged 6.7 points and 2.8 rebounds. As he recovered from his injury, he averaged 12.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists in each game. He was voted ACC Player of the Year.
He was 36th overall on the 2016 NBA Draft list and wowed fans in his first game with an outstanding performance, recording 8 points and 9 assists in a game his team eventually lost to the Charlotte Hornets. He later recorded 12 points, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds against the Chicago Bulls. The Bucks won 116-96.
Brandon was called up to play on the United Statesbasketball team and with the team he took part in the Pan American Games and won the bronze medal. He won NBA Rookie of the Year honors and was part of the 2017 All-Rookie First Team selection after averaging 10.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 75 games.
A left quadriceps tendon injury kept MalcolmBrogdon in the cooler for over 7 weeks of the 2018 season. He returned in April and averaged 12.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 48 games. In total, he missed 30 games.There’s more to the Milwaukee Bucks No. 13 jerseys than basketball. Brogdon studied history at the University of Virginia and has a master’s degree in leadership and public policy. He is also involved in a charitable project helping a South African community develop advanced ceramic water filters for safe drinking water. While out of action due to his injury, he used his time to do this philanthropic cause with a company called PureMadi. He is also partnered with Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Chris Long on another drinking water cause with Africa Waterboys. Malcolm revealed he became interested in Africa after visiting Ghana with his family when he was 9 and saw the abject poverty the people live in.

Malcolm Brogdon is quiet about his personal life. He is currently unmarried and is not known to be in a relationship with any woman. However, he is romantically linked to Victoria Janowski, the former Virginia University volleyball star. She is currently the Vice Chair of the Athletic Council of the University of Virginia’s Black Student Alliance. In February 2016, a photo of the two posing as back to back was posted on the UVAToday blog.
