Lewis spent his formative years in Marin County, California. His father, a jazz drummer and radiologist, and his mother, a commercial artist, raised him. Lewis attended Lawrenceville School in New Jersey and later briefly attended Cornell University before leaving to focus on honing his musical talents while traveling across the USA.

He kick-started his music career as a member of the band ‘Clover,’ contributing as a harmonica player and vocalist. Following the dissolution of ‘Clover’ in 1978, Lewis formed “Huey Lewis and the American Express,” subsequently renamed “Huey Lewis and the News.” The band’s second album ‘Picture This’ achieved gold status and featured the hit song “Do You Believe in Love.”

The pinnacle of their success came with the 1983 album “Sports,” which sold over 10 million copies globally, solidifying the band’s position as a chart-topping pop act. Their subsequent album, “Fore!” released in 1986, also enjoyed immense commercial success.

Aside from music, Lewis ventured into acting, making notable appearances in films like “Duets” and “Sphere.” He has also been involved in television, featuring in the dance competition “Dancing with the Stars.” In 2013, the group commemorated the 30th anniversary of “Sports” with a reissue of the album. Currently, he is taking on a new challenge by making his Broadway debut in the musical “Chicago,” portraying the character Billy Flynn.

Despite personal challenges, including his parents’ divorce when he was young and his own marital separation from Sidney Conroy after six years of marriage, Lewis remains an influential figure in the music industry.

#Quote
1A lot has been written and said about why he was so great, but I think the best way to appreciate his greatness is just to go back and play some of the old records. Time has a way of being very unkind to old records, but Elvis’ keep getting better and better.
#Fact
1“The Power of Love” from Back to the Future (1985) earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song.
