BIOGRAPHY
Denzel Washington was born on December 28, 1954 in the town of Mount Vernon, New York. He was the second of three children and his father was a minister of the Pentecostal Church. He originally intended to study journalism and upon graduating from high school, he enrolled at Fordham University in the Bronx, but when he began to participate in plays he realized that acting was his thing. He moved to the city of San Francisco and enrolled in the American Conservatory Theater. After getting paid roles for various productions, he began looking for roles for film and television.
She made her television debut in 1977 in the series Wilma and her first appearance on the big screen, in 1981, was with the film Call Me Charlie alongside George Segal. This was followed by A Soldier’s Story (1984) and Power (1986). However, the film that gave impetus to his career was Cry Freedom in 1987, with which she earned her first Oscar nomination. In 1987 he won his first statuette thanks to his performance in Times of Glory .
