Max George Carey (January 11, 1890 – May 30, 1976) was a prominent American center fielder in Major League Baseball, known for his time with the Pittsburgh Pirates and his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1961. Over his 20-year career, he achieved remarkable success, leading the league in stolen bases ten times and finishing with 738 swipes, a National League record until 1974, and still ranking as the 9th-highest total in major league history.
