Reports from regional officials on Tuesday revealed that there were three fatalities and dozens of injuries following overnight Russian missile attacks in various parts of Ukraine, including Kyiv and Kharkiv.

Air raid sirens were heard in Kyiv at night, followed by loud blasts, believed to be caused by air defence systems responding to Russian targets, as witnessed by AFP journalists in the capital.

The chief of Ukraine’s army, Valery Zaluzhny, took to social media to confirm that Russian forces had launched 41 missiles, including cruise and ballistic missiles, and that 21 of these had been intercepted and downed by Ukrainian forces.

Kharkiv suffered the most from the attacks, situated near the Russian border, where the mayor reported two deaths and nearly 40 injuries.

Igor Terekhov, the mayor, stated online, “There are 38 injured and two dead as a result of the attack on Kharkiv.”

Russian forces had initially attempted to seize control of Kharkiv early in the invasion that began in February 2022, but were repelled. Since then, they have continuously bombarded the city.

In Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko disclosed that 18 people had been injured, with 13 requiring hospitalization.

He added, “One woman is in the intensive care unit and is still receiving intensive care. She is currently alive!”

Klitschko also noted that several buildings, including residential blocks, had been set on fire and that an unexploded munition was discovered in one of the apartments, leading to the evacuation of the residents.

Further south, in Pavlograd, the governor of Dnipropetrovsk reported one fatality and another injury resulting from the overnight attack.
